Jamie Carragher poured scorn on the quality of Manchester City’s back four after a first half at the King Power Stadium that saw them ship three goals against an out-of-form Leicester City.

Jamie Vardy’s second goal (and Leicester’s third) took Man City to eighteen in the goals against column for the season, and Carragher was quick to criticise Pep Guardiola’s backline.

“Defensively Man City are one of the worst teams in the league, all over the place,” he wrote. “Spent 100's millions on defenders not one good enough”

The former Liverpool defender also called into question Guardiola’s tactics, suggesting that the manager was making life more difficult for his defence: “Those defenders not helped by the tactics of the manager playing a back 3 as it exposes them even more, and the keeper who's poor.”

City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, and Guardiola has been forced to defend his decision to replace Joe Hart with the former Barcelona number one. Further questions will be asked after he failed to keep out a long range effort from Andy King during the first half at Leicester.

Manchester City’s lacklustre performance at Leicester will almost certainly lead to renewed calls for the City manager to bring in defensive reinforcements during the January window if his team are to remain in the title race.
