Ireland's Ciaran Clark signs new five-year deal with Aston Villa
CIARAN Clark has committed his long term future to Aston Villa after putting pen to paper on a new five year contract.
The 25-year-old showed improved form last year under Tim Sherwood, although his campaign ended on a low note when injury ruled him out of their FA Cup final loss to Arsenal at Wembley.
West Brom were linked with a move for his services this summer, but Sherwood has moved to tie down the Irish international.
Clark said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to sign a new contract. I've been at Aston Villa since I was a kid and I want to continue to play for this fantastic football club.
"I'm delighted to be going into the opening game on Saturday knowing my long term future has been sorted."
Sherwood paid tribute to Clark's full blooded approach on the pitch. "Ciaran wears his heart on his sleeve," he said, "He was unfortunate with injuries last season but he looks sharp now and we want to keep him fit.
"You know what you're going to get from Ciaran - he gives everything for the cause and that's all you can ask for as a manager. We're pleased to have him here for a longer time.
