Junior Hoilett and Yakubu eased Blackburn's relegation worries as they sank Sunderland at Ewood Park last night.
The result took revitalised Rovers six points clear of the drop zone -- they have now taken 10 points from their last five league games, the only defeat in that spell coming at the hands of Manchester City.
Hoilett, who got both goals in Blackburn's previous game, a 2-0 win at Wolves, struck in the 58th minute. Sunderland 'keeper Simon Mignolet punched a long throw-in from Morten Gamst Pedersen only as far as the Canadian midfielder, who unleashed a crisp volley into the net.
And Nigerian striker Yakubu added a second four minutes from time, heading home Bradley Orr's centre.
Sunderland had spurned a glorious chance to equalise, Ji Dong-Won firing over James McClean's inviting cross from close range.
The hosts fashioned the only clear-cut chance of a drab first half, when Yakubu's effort was cleared off the line by Phil Bardsley.
