Hogan inspires rout for five-star Villa
Scott Hogan's first Championship goal for Aston Villa at Villa Park sparked an impressive 5-0 win over Bristol City.
Following a depressing December when they only won one game, Villa began the New Year on a bright note and moved back into the top six with their best win of the season.
The Irish-qualified striker's 23rd-minute goal changed the whole game and it was followed by two further goals from Robert Snodgrass and late strikes from Birkir Bjarnason and Irish international Conor Hourihane as Villa won their seventh successive home game against City.
Manager Steve Bruce, however, was full of praise for man of the match Jack Grealish.
"All of a sudden Jack Grealish looks a man," he said."We all know he is a good footballer and against Bristol City he gave a top performance and certainly his best under my control."
Meanwhile, Darron Gibson suffered a groin injury during relegation-threatened Sunderland's 1-0 defeat to Barnsley.
"Now it looks like we will lose Darron Gibson for some time too, I had no choice but to play him because Paddy McNair was not fit," said his worried manager Chris Coleman.
"We lose Darron now but we had nowhere else to turn apart from a few young ones. That's the worrying thing."
