Gary Neville has poured praised on Republic of Ireland international Jeff Hendrick after he scored Burnley’s winner in their 1-0 win against Newcastle.

Hendrick highlighted his fine technique to control a box that fizzed across the box in the 74th minute, with his cool finish guiding Sean Dyche’s side up to a lofty seventh place in the Premier Legaue.

While much of the post-match discussion focused on Dyche’s links with the vacant managerial post at Everton, Sky Sports pundit Neville suggested Hendrick deserved all the praise for his match-winning contribution.

“When people makes things look easy, like he has done there, you think that’s what he should have done,” stated Neville.

“If he mis-controlled it, we’d be sitting here saying how has he not scored, but to keep your composure, keep your eye on the ball is not easy.

“He was so focused and the first touch is brilliant. The defender is going for it, the keeper is going for it and the composure is brilliant.

“The clever but about the finish is that a the defender is flying at him and he lifts it over him and into the roof of the net. There is a real bit of quality in that finish. He’s a top player.”

Hendrick used his post-match interview to heap praise on Dyche, as he was asked whether his in-demand manager was the primary reason why Burnley were riding high in the Premier League table.

"Definitely. He has us working hard every week, and the bare minimum is to give it our lot and make it hard for teams against us," stated the Irishman.

"From there we get the goal and play and, like we've shown this year, we've scored some great goals and we need to continue that."

Hendrick has now scored match winning goal for Burnley in two of their last four Premier League matches, as he backed up his strike secured a 1-0 win against Everton earlier this month with another winner at Turf Moor.
