Guardiola irked by Mendy's latest nightclub antics
Pep Guardiola has told Benjamin Mendy to get his priorities straight after the Manchester City defender was spotted in a nightclub at 3.30am - hours before he was due to attend a training session.
The City manager expressed regret that Mendy had opted to visit a Manchester nightspot until the early hours on Saturday.
Mendy - who was not part of City's squad who beat Fulham 2-0 at Craven Cottage on Saturday lunchtime - has played just once in almost five months and the latest incident may raise fresh concerns about his long-term future at the Premier League champions.
Guardiola publicly reprimanded Mendy in September after the Frenchman turned up three hours late for treatment on an injury the morning after attending an Anthony Joshua world title boxing bout in London the previous night.
Having confirmed that Mendy trained on Saturday, Guardiola said: "I would prefer him to go home earlier, but I don't control the players in that situation."
Guardiola said Mendy was available to face Cardiff City at the Etihad Stadium tonight, when victory would move the champions back above Liverpool at the top of the table, but the defender is testing his manager's patience.
There was exasperation at City when they discovered Mendy had accumulated 24 penalty points on his driving licence after failing to respond to police requests to confirm that he was the driver for four separate speeding offences, for which he received a 12-month driving ban.
He has also been warned about his social-media use, although the biggest frustration has centred over his fitness. Mendy missed the majority of last season with a knee injury and he has been sidelined for much of this campaign after surgery on his left knee as well as suffering a foot problem.
