Gomez could play again this season - Silva
Everton manager Marco Silva says it is possible midfielder Andre Gomes will play again this season, as he starts his recovery from the horrific ankle injury suffered against Tottenham Hotspur.
Gomes is destined for a long rehabilitation but, after successful surgery, Everton are optimistic about the timing of his comeback.
"Everything went really well and we hope we can see him playing again this season," Silva said.
"It's not easy for us to give an exact date of when he will return but in our mind, and feedback from our medical staff, that is possible.
"It is not something we can be 100 per cent sure on, but there are lots of positives."
Spurs' Son Heung-min has texted Gomes to express his regret at causing the injury with his late challenge. It led to a red card, but that dismissal was later overturned.
Son said: "It's been a really tough few days for me. I text him and he has text me back. I feel really sorry. Football is a sport where something (like this) can happen, nobody wants to see this situation."
Silva was grateful for the concern, although he did emphasise that, while those who witnessed the incident were affected, nobody had suffered more than Gomes himself.
"Of course, that was a tougher moment for Andre, for sure, than all the others," said Silva. "The toughest moment was for Andre, but of course for the two players who were involved, first Son and after, (Serge) Aurier, it was really tough as well. But now is a moment for us to give Andre all the support he needs." (© The Daily Telegraph)
