Jose Mourinho has enjoyed his first day at Manchester United's Carrington training HQ - with the image of one of his first visitors highlighted by club officials in a Twitter message.

United director and club legend Bobby Charlton was viewed as one of the chief voices of opposition to Jose Mourinho's appointment as Manchester United manager, so it was telling that images oft he Old Trafford icon meeting the new boss have been posted on the club's social media feed.

"He pontificates too much for my liking," said Charlton when asked about Mourinho back in 2012, amid suggestions that he blocked attempts to install the Portuguese coach as United manager when Alex Ferguson retired a year later.

The duo had a friendly exchange as captured by MUTV, with Charlton pleased to give his blessing to the new United manager in a very public setting on camera.

"I'm very happy to see you," Charlton told Mourinho in footage captured by MUTV, before Mourinho joked about Charlton's two goals for England against Portugal in the 1966 World Cup semi-final.

"You killed my country's dream in 1966, but even so, all the best," he said, before suggesting Charlton should only congratulate him when United start winning matches.”

Mourinho has finally landed his dream job at United and he will have welcomed the greeting offered up by club icon Charlton, as he was given a tour of the club's lavish training base.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was on hand to chaperone Mourinho around Carrington, with plans already being move into place for the new United boss as he looks ahead to his first season in charge.

Bookies are certainly impressed by the presence of Mourinho at United, with the odds on the Old Trafford club lifting the Premier League title trimmed in recent days following the confirmation that the ex-Chelsea boss had replaced Louis van Gaal.
