The Football Association will be contacting Crystal Palace over an incident where Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini was struck by an object.

Coloccini was hit by what appeared to be a coin as Newcastle celebrated their goal during the 1-1 draw.

The FA will contact Palace to offer their help in trying to track down the perpetrator but will not take disciplinary action against the club.

Newcastle boss John Carver said his skipper could have been seriously hurt.

He said: "'It takes one idiot to throw an coin, I have seen it and it misses Colo's eye by an inch - another inch and it could blind him."
