Chelsea's Daniel Sturridge struck with meningitis
CHELSEA striker Daniel Sturridge is undergoing tests for suspected meningitis. The 22-year-old is understood to have fallen ill last weekend.
Sturridge's condition is said to have improved over the last 48 hours, but he seems certain to be ruled out of the Olympic Games, having been named in the 23-man British squad on Monday.
More details of his condition are expected when Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo holds a routine pre-season press conference at the club's training ground this morning.
Doctors reportedly suspect Sturridge may be suffering from the viral strain of the disease, the symptoms of which are generally mild and which can be overcome without the need for medical treatment. However, he still faces a long lay-off as complete rest is a key part of the treatment.
