Napoli’s manager Maurizio Sarri could replace Antonio Conte at Chelsea (Mike Egerton/Empics)

Maurizio Sarri has moved to the front of the queue to replace Antonio Conte at Chelsea after his departure from Napoli was confirmed yesterday.

Chelsea have been deliberating over a number of potential candidates, including former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, but ex-Napoli boss Sarri is pushing hard to land the job.

Sarri has employed an English-based intermediary to try to convince Chelsea he is the right candidate to succeed Conte, who is expected to be sacked.

Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti yesterday signed a three-year deal to take over from Sarri at Napoli.

Russian club Zenit St Petersburg have offered Sarri a £5.2 million-a-year (€5.9m) contract and want an answer by the weekend, but Sarri is waiting to see if Chelsea make a move.
