Chelsea preparing a bid for Alvaro Morata after losing out in race for Romelu Lukaku - report
Chelsea are reported to be preparing a bid to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, according to Sky Sports in Italy.
After Chelsea lost out in the race to sign Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, they now appear to be targeting the striker United were keen to sign for most this summer.
United made it clear that they would not be pursuing their interest in Morata after confirming they had a deal for Lukaku, leaving the striker who has made it clear he wants to leave Spain for the Premier League in a tricky position.
Real Madrid appear to be keen to keep hold of a striker that have placed a £70m price tag on and he was strongly linked with a spicy to Chelsea last summer before he opted to stay in his homeland for one more season.
Now Chelsea may be tempted to turn their attentions to Morata, with the less than reliable Sky sources in Italy reporting Stamford Bridge officials have already made contact with Real Madrid as they plot a move.
After Chelsea bid £75m in a belated attempt to hijack Lukaku move to United last Monday, the Premier League champions may be forced to make a similar offer to sign Morata and they may be pushed into that move as they look to bounce back from their somewhat embarrassing near miss over Lukaku.
We have had scenarios this summer that has seen Sky Sport in the UK denying stories reported by Sky Sports in Italy, so it is hard to know whether this story has any genuine merit, with Chelsea officials offering a firm ‘no comment’ on the rumours.
Chelsea may feel compelled to secure a big-name signing after missing out on Lukaku to one of their domestic rivals, which could force the Blues to splash the cash on players who may now be viewed as their back-up options
