Chelsea confident they can pip Manchester United to Mats Hummels signing
Chelsea have joined the race to sign Mats Hummels and believes they can fight off competition from Manchester United and Arsenal to land the defender.
According to reports, while United believe they are favourites to land the Borussia Dortmund centre-back, Chelsea are confident they are in a better position to pip their Premier League rivals.
They can easily fork out the £37m asking price but they believe should they win the title, that would make them a more attractive club to join rather than United who are not guaranteed a Champions League spot next season.
If Chelsea fail to sign Hummels, they will turn their attention to Real Madrid's Raphael Varane instead.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina have triggered their option to extend Mohamed Salah’s loan into next season before buying him on a permanent basis.
Salah has scored seven goals since joining Fiorentina from Chelsea until the end of the season and the Italians have agreed to pay the £1.5 million fee it will take to keep the Egyptian next season.
At the end of next season, Fiorentina can buy Salah for around £18m.
