Liverpool winger Lazar Marković has revealed he joined Fenerbahçe on loan because former manager Brendan Rodgers "changed" towards the end of his spell at Anfield.

The Reds signed Marković for £20m from Benfica in the summer of 2014 but the 21-year-old made just a handful of appearances before being offloaded to the Turkish giants.

Rodgers has since been sacked and replaced by Jürgen Klopp at the Merseyside club but the attacking midfielder is still reeling from being left out of the Northern Irishman's squad at the start of this season without explanation.

“I had no problem with Rodgers and we had a bond until, for some reason that remains a mystery to me, he changed.” Markovic told Turkish website Fanatic.

“He stopped playing me and then at the start of the season he didn't even include me in the squad. And nobody explained to me what was going on or what his plans were, so I decided to leave.”

Rodgers has since been linked with positions at Aston Villa and former club Swansea City but is yet to return to football after being dismissed in October.

Under Klopp, meanwhile, Liverpool have reached the final of the Capital One Cup after defeating Stoke City over two legs last month.
