Best completes £3m switch to Blackburn
Ireland striker Leon Best's stay at Newcastle is over after Blackburn swooped for his signature yesterday.
Rovers have agreed a fee of more than £3million for the 25-year-old, who has penned a four-year contract at Ewood Park.
Another Irishman, Chris Hughton, signed Best for the Magpies in a £1.2m deal from Coventry in February 2010, but he found his chances last season limited by injury and the form of Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse.
The summer arrival of Ba, who scored 15 goals before heading off on African Nations Cup duty with Senegal, and a subsequent 13-goal blast from Cisse saw Best marginalised.
Ba's future at the club remains in some doubt amid speculation that a series of potential purchasers will attempt to activate a release clause in his contract.
• Dubliner Stephen Elliott has returned to English football by signing a one-year deal with Coventry. The former Irish international was out of contract with SPL side Hearts.
