Alexis Sanchez flies back to London with his lawyer - via Paris
Alexis Sanchez is returning to London after being granted extended leave to recover from illness.
The forward was due to report to Arsenal's London Colney training ground on Sunday but was given permission to by the club to remain in Chile after coming down with what Arsene Wenger described as 'the flu'.
Ruben Inostroza Povea, who is Sanchez's lawyer, uploaded a picture of the pair preparing to leave Santiago airport, Chile, on Sunday evening.
According to Povea's Instagram picture, the trip included a stopover in Paris, where the forward is thought to have renewed his British work permit.
The former Barcelona striker has been linked with moves to PSG and Manchester City this summer having so far failed to sign a new Arsenal contract.
Wenger has revealed he has been in regular text conversation with the 28-year-old, but admitted he is unsure whether Sanchez will be fit for the start of the season.
"He comes back on Monday night," the Frenchman said following Arsenal's 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in the final Emirates Cup match.
"We don't know, we have to assess his physical state.
Speaking after Arsenal's 5-2 Emirates Cup win over Benfica, Wenger reiterated that Sanchez would not be sold this summer.
"He has flu, yes. I had him on text yesterday. There's no development (on his future), he is staying, of course."
Arsenal play Premier League champions Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday in the Community Shield.
