Arsenal and PSG in the running for German star in January transfer window battle
Julian Draxler is still considering making a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window, according to one of his advisers.
Reports earlier this week had suggested that Draxler had agreed to join PSG, with the player ‘telling friends’ that he was eager to seal a switch to the French capital.
Draxler has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent years, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger a stated admirer of the German midfielder who has fallen out of favour with his current club Wolfsburg.
Paris Saint-Germain appeared to be the firm favourites to sign Draxler but one of the player’s advisers has told Le Parisien that a move to north London is still a possibility.
“Nothing is done. Julian is still hesitating between PSG and Arsenal,” confirmed the adviser.
“For the moment, he is thinking. A decision will be made in the coming days. One thing is certain, he has played his last match for Wolfsburg.”
Meanwhile, former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is being linked with a possible move to take over as the new PSG manager, with Unai Emery under pressure after a woeful start to the season.
The presence of Van Gaal’s former protégé Patrick Kluivert as PSG’s Director of Football is fuelling rumours that the duo could be ready to link-up once again.
The move would see Van Gaal thrust into an uncomfortable reunion with Angel Di Maria, who was a major disappointment after the Dutchman signed the winger for Manchester United in the summer of 2014.
