Patterson double sinks Bray
Bray Wanderers 2, Derry City 3
DESPITE Jason Byrne grabbing all the recent headlines, Rory Patterson showed why he is the division's top scorer as Derry went into the mid-season break in second place.
The Northern Ireland striker netted twice either side of half-time as City left a rain-drenched Carlisle Grounds with all three points to end Bray's three-match winning streak.
Playing with the aid of a strong wind, the FAI Cup holders took a 13th minute lead when Patrick McEleney slid in to score his first goal since last April from 12 yards.
In the 34th minute, Dave Webster's rocket of a shot was superbly tipped over by Ger Doherty's spectacular save in the Derry goal.
But from Waters' resulting corner, Ismahil Akinade rose to guide a close-range header past Doherty.
However, it was the Candystripes who led going into the break, when Patterson claimed his 13th goal of the campaign with a neat finish.
And number 14 arrived in the 51st minute as Patterson got in between two home defenders to side foot past Darren Quigley from six yards.
Yet, the Wicklow side responded to make it 3-2 the 57th minute. Dean Zambra's in-swinging corner caught out Doherty at his near post with the ball rebounding in off the covering Kevin Deery but they couldn't find an equaliser.
