Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare has raised doubts about whether he will be able to play again following the motorway crash that left him hospitalised in September.

The 26-year-old Senegalese left-back joined Palace from French club Lille in January 2015 and has a contract that runs to the end of the 2018-19 season.

But his second full season in English football was ruined when his Mercedes was involved in an M4 crash, causing Souare to require leg and jaw surgery.

He broke a thigh bone, but speaking within days of the accident Palace manager Alan Pardew said the club were confident Souare would make a full recovery.

In an interview with the BBC World Service this week, Souare said: "I don't know about my injury. I don't know if I can get back or not.

"I just put everything in the hands of God and we will see."

Souare was cut out of his car by firefighters and the road to recovery is proving a long and testing one.

He said: "I got my leg broke, and my jaw, and I couldn't eat for the first month, but now I can eat, I can try to eat a little bit."

He says recovery from his leg injury is gradual and he is working " to make it stronger", having experienced a major fright in the accident.

"I remember the helicopter coming to get me. I remember the door on my leg," he said, adding: "I was very lucky because that was a very crazy shock."
