WATCH: Chapecoense survivor Alan Ruschel given standing ovation by Nou Camp crowd in friendly with Barcelona
Chapecoense defender and LaMia Airlines Flight 2933 survivor Alan Ruschel was given a standing ovation on Monday by the Nou Camp during Barcelona's pre-season friendly with the Brazilian Serie A side.
Ruschel is just one of six survivors from the Flight 2933 crash, which killed 71 people, including 19 Chapecoense players, when transporting the Chapecoense football squad and coaching staff from Viru Viru International Airport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, to José María Córdova International Airport in Colombia last November.
Ruschel was the first Chapecoense player to arrive at Hospital de La Ceral after the crash where he received immediate surgery on his back to amend the injuries he sustained.
The 27-year-old winger has been rehabilitating ever since, but did play 45 minutes in a friendly against Brazilian side Ypiranga recently, which was followed by an appearance against Barcelona on Monday night.
Ruschel was made captain for the game and received a standing ovation from the Nou Camp crowd when he was substituted, and even swapped jerseys with five-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi.
