Video: Cristiano Ronaldo humiliated by ball boy during 4-0 defeat, sees the funny side of it

As if losing 4-0 to your arch rivals wasn’t bad enough, Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo had to deal with the reemergence of a video showing him being snubbed by a ball boy during last year's derby with Atletic Madrid.

Ronaldo was only just returning from a two-game suspension having lashed out at Cordoba’s Edimar last month, but it will be a game that Real will want to forget as soon as possible as the reigning La Liga champions dished out a heavy defeat to the Champions League holders on Saturday afternoon.

While the football world was left stunned at events at the Vicente Calderon, Twitter users quickly dragged out the video from last years Madrid derby. With the ball crossing the sideline for a throw-in, Ronaldo quickly ran to collect it from the ball boy, perhaps believing that there was a way back into the game for his side. Unfortunately for the Portuguese forward, the ball boy had other ideas.

After offering the ball to the Ballon d’Or holder, he quickly changed his mind and threw it away from Ronaldo, before turning his head in nonchalance. Ronaldo, clearly bemused by the act, almost saw the funny side of it as he turned to the referee before laughing to himself and jogging away.

Thankfully, Ronaldo decided against taking matters into his own hands, unlike Chelsea's Eden Hazard infamously did during the 0-0 draw with Swansea in January 2013 where he kicked out at him when he refused to retrieve the ball.

Things got off to a bad start for Real as Tiago put Atletico ahead in the 14th minute, and the lead was quickly doubled when Saul – who came on for Koke in the early stages – scored just four minutes later.

Carlo Ancelotti sent on Jese in place of Sami Khedira at half-time in search of a way back into the game, but the match was soon killed off when Antoine Griezmann scored Atletico’s third in the 67th minute, and Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic rounded out the scorring when he added a fourth in the closing stages.

With Barcelona going on to beat Athletic Bilbao 5-2 on Sunday night, Real’s lead at the top of La Liga had been reduced to just one point, with Atletico a further three points behind the Catalans.
