Ryan Swan wants to go one better than his father Derek after helping UCD to see off Janesboro at a rain-drenched Belfield Bowl.

Despite a distinguished career with Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers, Dundalk and UCD, Swan Snr never lifted the Blue Riband of Irish football and his son quipped: "I've got more European goals than dad and it would be really nice to get my hands on the Cup."

Swan broke the deadlock after five minutes and then turned provider for Kieran Marty Waters to make it 2-0 on 21 minutes.

Michael Ryan gave Janesboro hope seven minutes before half-time, but UCD were always in control and Irish Schools international Liam Scales struck on 78 minutes to settle it.

UCD - Corbett; Langtry, Collins, Kougoun, Scales; Sloggett (Ryan 90), O'Neill; Waters, Watson (O'Connor 66), McCelland (Byrne 81); Swan.

Janesboro - Mulready; O'Mara (Lowe 81), Curtain, Hurley, McMarlow; Bradley, Ryan, Harkin, Nunan (Lynch 88); Clarke, Tierney (Healy 81).

Ref - J McLoughlin (Westmeath).
