Robbie Keane has made the three-man shortlist for the MLS Player of the Year, and former League of Ireland official Alan Kelly is also up for an award.

The Ireland skipper, dropped for last week's loss in Glasgow, has enjoyed his best ever goalscoring season in America and is in the running for Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the first time.

Keane is up against ex-Newcastle and Birmingham striker Obafemi Martins (Seattle) and Lee Nguyen (New England Revolution). Martins and Keane will be on opposite sides in the MLS Cup play-offs this Sunday, meeting in their version of the semi-final.

Kelly has been recognised as one of the three top refs after making the big move Stateside. The ceremony takes place on December 3.

Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers have confirmed the addition of English striker Danny North from Sligo Rovers; Pat Fenlon has also agreed new deals with Ryan Brennan, Sean O'Connor, Patrick Cregg, Simon Madden and Gary McCabe.
