Ireland striker Kevin Doyle will earn $1.05m (€960,000) with Colorado Rapids in 2017, with Brazilian star Kaka confirmed as Major League Soccer’s highest paid star after American soccer chiefs released their annual salary figures.

Doyle enjoyed a fine season as he helped Colorado into the MLS play-offs last season and he is set to make a decision on his future in the game when this campaign comes to an end.

“I am not a big fan of the MLS releasing these wages figures, but this is the way they do it over here,” Doyle told

“I suppose it is interesting for people to see what everyone is earning. We all like to have a little look at the list when it comes out.”

While Doyle is enjoying a healthy pay packet in Colorado, he is not the club’s biggest earner, with former Everton keeper Tim Howard set to collect $2.48m and Albanian attacking star Shkelzen Gashi taking home $1.67 million.

Colorado’s biggest stars do not even make it into the top ten in the overall MLS salary charts, with Orlando City star Kaka topping the wage list with annual income of a massive $7.16m.

Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco will be paid $7.12m this year with his team-mate Michael Bradley collecting $6.5m.

Former Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo is earning $5.9m in the next few months, with his fellow New York City star David Villa collecting $5.6m.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will collect $5.4m after his move to Chicago Fire, with the German World Cup winner sustaining the kind of salary he was enjoying during his less than successful stint at Old Trafford.

At the other end of the wages scale, LA Galaxy full-back Ashley Cole is listed as earning $377,625, with the former Arsenal and Chelsea star not among his club’s three designated players and therefore earning a relatively modest salary compared to some of his team-mates.
