Remi Garde praises 'brave' Micah Richards after captain confronts angry Villa fans
Aston Villa defender Micah Richard clashed with the club’s angry supporters during his side’s 1-1 draw FA Cup third round draw against Wycombe.
Richard was replaced in the closing stages of his side’s cup tie against the League 2 side and quickly become embroiled in a verbal joust with angry Villa fans.
A 1-1 draw in the match at Adams Park against a team operating in the fourth tier of English football brought Villa’s winless run to a desperate 16 games and it proved to be the final straw for some of he travelling supporters.
This BT Sport clips shows Richards putting up a strong case for the defence of his Villa team-mates, but it doesn’t appear that his audience was in any mood to listen.
Villa boss Remi Garde believes Richards was right to take the time to address the fans' pitchside frustrations in person.
"It was brave of him to do that," said Garde.
"As professionals we have to face our responsibilities - not only Micah, me and all the players.
"To be fair I didn't see the incident, but I've been told about it.
"I understand that the fans could be angry. We have to accept that, as a player, a manager, everybody at the club has to accept that criticism, because we are not winning - that's football.
"The situation with Aston Villa is very difficult and makes some silly things happen sometimes.
"Everybody has to keep calm, face their responsibilities, look in the mirror and ask themselves what they can do to get out of this difficult situation."
