Daniel Pender headed home an injury-time winner as UCC edged out defending champions UCD at a wind- and rain-swept Maynooth to regain the Irish Universities Collingwood Cup.

It was the winger's fourth goal in three games - he also hit the winner in their 1-0 quarter-final win over Trinity College and added two more, including the winner, in the 3-2 semi-final victory over DCU.

UCC had the best of the opening half and Sean O'Callaghan put them in front with a cool finish from the penalty spot on 32 minutes after Josh Collins was adjudged to have pushed Darragh Lucey.

UCD's search for an equaliser was finally rewarded when substitute Georgie Kelly got a head to Liam Scales' flick-on to a Molloy corner.

Minutes later, Daire O'Connor had a great chance to put the holders ahead but he blazed his effort well over.

UCC then had manager Noel Healy sent from the sideline, but his players stuck to the task and snatched the winner.
