Sporting Chance helped Paul Gascoigne with his addiction

Paul Gascoigne is off the drink and back working as he aims to get his life back on track.

The former England star was placed in an emergency three-day detox after he was sectioned under the Mental Health Act at the end of October.

But, in today’s Daily Star, Gazza said: “I’m doing better and it is nice to know people care. I’m taking it one day at a time and just laying low for the time being.

“It’s been a difficult time but I am just taking it one step at a time.”

Gascoigne was detained for up to six weeks in October when friends became concerned about his health following a drinking binge that left him in a distressed state.

“I’m doing a lot of work with my doctors and with my psychiatrist and that’s still going on now,” added Gascoigne.

“Back to work and I think it will make me feel better and I need the money. Thank you to everyone who is wishing me well.”
