A goal from Yoyo Mahady in the closing minutes of the first half was enough to see the holders UCD claim a place in today's Irish Universities Collingwood Cup semi-final after a hard-fought 1-0 quarter-final win against Queen's University at the University of Limerick.

Queen's, defeated 2-1 in last season's decider by the Belfield side, pushed the holders all the way once again.

The much-fancied UCC got through to the semi-finals but they were given a stern test by DCU before eventually coming out 2-1.

Garan Manley and Simon Falvey had them in front after 17 minutes before Ruadhan Feeney pulled a goal back late on.

Two goals from Adam Foley helped hosts UL to a 3-1 victory over Maynooth University.

Foley met a Sean McSweeney cross to net the opener before grabbing his second on 75 minutes.

Cian Hughes responded to give Maynooth hope but a late penalty by McSweeney sealed the win.

Ulster University proved much too strong for the Royal College of Surgeons by netting nine times in a one-sided affair.

Today's semi-final line-up sees UL face Ulster University and UCC play UCD. Both games are at 2.30 in UL.
