Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has become one of the favourites to become Rangers manager next season after his odds were slashed by bookmakers overnight.

The Anfield legend, now 37, has been in a coaching role with the Liverpool Academy since January of last year but, while he would bring considerable experience to the role, he has not held a managerial position at any level.

That hasn't stopped him from becoming one of the favourites to take the Ibrox hotseat next season though, with Gerrard's odds dropping from 25/1 to 8/1.

Those odds are the same as what you could get for the likes of Preston North End boss Alex Neil and former MK Dons chief Robbie Neilson, both of whom have expressed a passing interest in the role.

Graham Potter, currently boss with Swedish side Ostersunds, is favourite at 4/1, with former Gers man Frank de Boer at 5/1. Others in with a shout include Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock (6/1), while Kilmarnock coach Steve Clarke is an outside bet at 12/1.

Current Rangers boss Graeme Murty, who took over when Pedro Caixinha left the club in October, has failed to convince Ibrox chiefs that he is the man to take on the role on a permanent basis and, as such, it is believed they are on the lookout for a new man for next season.
