Hogan scores two in Villa stroll
New Irish recruit Scott Hogan returned to the Aston Villa side to bag a brace in their EFL Cup win over Wigan last night - a game in which Cavan youngster Jake Doyle-Hayes made his debut
Midfielder Doyle-Hayes hails from Ballyjamesduff and Steve Bruce selected him for an experimental side that included Hogan who returned to full action after a minor injury and scored twice in a 4-1 win.
He wasn't the only Irish youngster to enjoy a landmark night with Brighton boss Chris Hughton pitching in Waterford teenager Jayson Molumby for his senior bow in a hard-fought 1-0 win over Barnet. Richie Towell was also given 90 minutes.
Dubliner Eoghan Stokes made his first appearance for Leeds in a 5-1 win over Newport County.
Stokes was linked with Cork City earlier this year when his future looked uncertain. Former City defender Brian Lenihan returned to action for Hull but they lost away to League One side Doncaster.
Another Corkman, John Egan, scored for Brentford in a comfortable 4-1 win at QPR.
