Brazilian star Ronaldinho is a free agent after leaving Atletico Mineiro and while he continues to be linked with a host of clubs, one unlikely English conference side has made an unlikely offer.

The Basingstoke Gazzette is reporting today that the Conference South side has made an offer to the former Barcelona and AC Milan star, and have even offered flights to England and accommodation as part of the ambitious deal

The 34 year-old is is on the look-out for a new challenge, though it's not clear if this is what he has in mind.

'Discussions have been had, and there is an offer on the table," Simon Hood, Basingstoke Town's marketing director, said.

"Now it is up to Ronaldinho to decide whether he wants to take us up on it."

"He is on a free transfer and if he wants to get into English football, I cannot think of a better way to do that than by signing for Basingstoke Town."
