Two goals in each half secured an emphatic victory for Crumlin United over Dublin rivals Tolka Rovers in the Intermediate Cup final at the Aviva Stadium.

Strikes from Alan McGreal and Ger Rowe put crumlin in command at the break before another pair by Greg Moorehouse and Patrick Cannon in the final 17 minutes underlined their dominance.

Fellow Leinster Senior League side Tolka held their own for the first half an hour but two Crumlin goals three minutes apart tore them asunder and left them with a near impossible rescue mission after the interval.

Victory marked Crumlin's third time to lift the coveted trophy and this one was all the sweeter given they eliminated five-in-a-row chasers Avondale United during their voyage to the national stadium.

Before the breakthrough arrived, Rovers fashioned chances through Mark Townley and Marc Hughes. Had one of them gone in, perhaps a different finale to the whitewash that ensued may have unfolded.

Crumlin had won the Charlie Cahill Cup last week and the scent of more silverware began to emerge when the two goals in quick succession arrived.

On the half hour, McGreal exchanged passes with Greg Moorehouse 20 yards out before unleashing a shot which whipped past Morgan Cranley in the Tolka goal.

Former Shamrock Rovers striker Rowe gave Rovers little time to breath by adding the second from the next attack.

McGreal provided the assist on this occasion by releasing Rowe through on goal and he found the net home from an acute angle.

Early pressure from Tolka led to a couple of opportunities for Jonathan Meleady and Niall O'Reilly, yet David Meehan in the Crumlin goal was at his best each time.

With plenty of energy in their legs, Crumlin began to stretch Tolka and Greg Moorehouse put the outcome beyond doubt on 73 minutes by latching onto Rowe's pass and tucking the ball home.

Substitute Patrick Cannon got in on the act with a minute left. He controlled McGreal's pinpoint lay-off before beating Cranley with a deft chip.
