Alex Ferguson earned an astonishing £2,165,000 in his role as global ambassador for Manchester United in just eight months between October 2013 and June last year.
Figures obtained by the Daily Mail show the former United boss still has an extremely lucrative deal with the club, while it has been confirmed that David Moyes and his staff received a pay-off of £4,892,000.
It is claimed that the figures are officially declared in the club accounts lodged at Companies House. To emphasis the size of Fergie’s salary, Bobby Charlton received just £105,000 during the same period for his consultancy role.
Ferguson made the seismic decision to retire from Manchester United at the end of the 2012/2013 season, bringing to a close nearly 27 years at Old Trafford.
At the time of his retirement, Fergie looked ahead to his new role.
“Going forward, I am delighted to take on the roles of both Director and Ambassador for the club. With these activities, along with my many other interests, I am looking forward to the future,” he said.
“I must pay tribute to my family, their love and support has been essential. My wife Cathy has been the key figure throughout my career, providing a bedrock of both stability and encouragement. Words are not enough to express what this has meant to me.”
