Nugent heads Foxes closer to Wembley
Leicester1 Watford 0 Championship play-off semi-final
David Nugent broke his goal duck to give Leicester a first-leg advantage.
Nugent netted for the first time in 17 matches with eight minutes remaining to give the Foxes a 1-0 lead to protect in Sunday's second leg at Vicarage Road.
It looked like Nigel Pearson's side might be left to rue their failure to take the chances they created, particularly during the first half. But Watford will also be disappoin-ted not to have scored, with Ikechi Anya and Matej Vydra spurning one-on-one chances in each half.
The two teams came into last night's game on the back of contrasting final-day experiences.
While Leicester celebrated sneaking into the play-offs on goal difference courtesy of Anthony Knockaert's injury-time winner at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Watford were left to rue failing to capitalise on Hull's home draw with champions Cardiff.
The visitors had goalkeeper Manuel Almunia to thank as they went into half-time all square, thanks to a number of fine blocks.
Chances were quite rare after the break, though Watford spurned a golden opportunity on the hour mark after Vydra scuffed a Marco Cassetti pass and shot tamely at Kasper Schmeichel. They were left to rue the miss as Nugent took his chance well when heading home Knockaert's free-kick on the 82nd minute.
Having sneaked into the play-offs, Leicester will feel they have the momentum to carry them to Wembley, and possibly beyond.
Watford will be hoping to halt that momentum.
