Newcastle keep it French as Sissoko joins from Toulouse
FRANCE midfielder Moussa Sissoko became Alan Pardew's latest French signing when he joined Newcastle United from Toulouse, the Ligue 1 club said today.
Sissoko, 23, has won six caps with France and started his career at Toulouse's youth academy.
"Moussa Sissoko will not go to the end of his contract with TFC. He found an agreement with Newcastle United for a definitive transfer which takes effect today," Toulouse said on their website (www.tfc.info).
On Wednesday Newcastle completed the signing of forward Yoan Gouffran from Girondins Bordeaux and a day earlier France centre back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa joined the Premier League club from Montpellier.
Newcastle, fifth in the Premier League last season, are 16th this term and stand only two points above the relegation zone.
The north-east side have also drafted in Lille and France right back Mathieu Debuchy in the transfer window.
Nancy fullback Massadio Haidara is poised to join the club's French contingent which already included midfielders Yohan Cabaye, Hatem Ben Arfa, Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain Marveaux, Romain Amalfitano and Mehdi Abeid.
Newcastle have been hit by defensive injuries this season and the new arrivals will help cover the expected exit of captain Fabricio Coloccini amid reports the centre half wants to return home to Argentina.
