New twist in Schoolboys row
THE FAI could be heading for a battle with their biggest affiliate after the Schoolboys Football Association of Ireland last night cried foul over a new rule proposal.
The SFAI, which represents over 100,000 players aged 16 and under, want their governing body to defer a planned vote at next weekend's FAI agm to double the 'radius rule' to 100km.
Since 2011, a rule exists within the SFAI preventing players from signing for a club whose home pitch is more than 49km from their registered school.
The FAI's attempt to assuage the DDSL by tabling their proposal to extend the distance, apparently without consulting the SFAI, sparked an outcry , which resulted in a meeting of the SFAI's powerful 15-man executive committee on Wednesday evening, which agreed to seek the deferment.
