Mob bombards Larissa flops
IF the players of Chelsea and Liverpool have been feeling sorry for themselves during their awful runs of form lately, they should be thankful they don't play for Greece Super League outfit Larissa.
Arriving home from Athens after a 3-0 midweek defeat to Atromitos, the players were forced to wait inside their bus for four hours after it came under attack from an enraged mob of around 500 fans.
The bus was bombarded with rocks, eggs and yoghurt while bonfires were lit to prevent it from moving as the fans' frustration at a dreadful season -- Larissa lie bottom of the league -- boiled over.
At one point, club captain and former Newcastle player Nikos Dabizas went outside to try to calm the situation, but he was forced to beat a hasty retreat as he was met with a volley of abuse.
Order was eventually restored but the players and staff were severely shaken by the incident.
"We expected some kind of reaction from the supporters, but it was still shocking to see their rage," said a club spokesman.
