Ireland international Aidan McGeady proved the hero for Sunderland as they bagged three points away to Rochdale in League One last night.

McGeady put the Black Cats in front just before the half-hour mark with a well-taken goal, but this was soon cancelled out by the home side. However, McGeady was in fine form and set up the winner for Charlie Wykes 11 minutes after the break.

Sheffield Wednesday got back to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 home victory against Luton thanks to Kadeem Harris' second-half goal.

The defeat means newly-promoted Luton are still yet to win a match back in the Championship. The breakthrough came in the 54th minute after a sloppy Simon Sluga throw from Luton's goal.

His attempt to quickly start an attack backfired and ricocheted into the path of Jacob Murphy, whose ball to the far post was nodded down by Steven Fletcher for Harris to prod home from close range.
