McCarthy praises boss Martinez for giving him 'the confidence to believe'
JAMES McCARTHY has paid tribute to Roberto Martinez as he reflected on a rollercoaster year.
The Everton midfielder is enjoying life at the right half of the table after a bittersweet end to his time with Wigan, where FA Cup success was followed by relegation.
McCarthy praised Martinez, who he followed from Wigan in the summer. "He has always believed in me," said McCarthy (left). "He gives you the confidence to believe you can do things."
The Glaswegian again stressed that he is looking forward to learning from new Irish assistant boss Roy Keane at international level. "Everything I can pick up from (Roy) I'll be delighted," he said.
The 23-year-old will return from suspension for the Toffees' meeting with Swansea tomorrow.
