Manchester United transfer news: Gareth Bale a "done deal"
Gareth Bale to Manchester United is almost a done deal, according to Sunday Express journalist John Richardson.
Speaking on MUTV ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League clash with Juventus, Richardson claimed that the transfer is all but completed, reports The Metro. "I think it's almost a done deal to be honest," he said. "I know somebody very close to Gareth Bale and the public are not hearing the real thing. He's very unhappy there and he's unhappy with his treatment."
The Metro adds that any deal for Bale would likely cost at least £80 million, but that fee - and his £300,000-a-week salary - is within United's reach as they prepare to reap the financial benefits of their record-breaking kit deal with Adidas.
United are also considering a shock cut-price swoop for Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.
United fear they will lose David de Gea to Real this summer, with the Spaniard out of contract in a year and yet to commit to a new deal.
The Mirror reports that although United have made Hugo Lloris their top target, should De Gea decide to leave, they feel he is overpriced by Tottenham at £25m.
That has seen United turn their attentions to Begovic, who is out of contract in 12 months and so could be available for around £8m.
United have not given up on De Gea, though, and have supposedly upped their contract offer to £200,000-a-week, which would make him the Premier League's best-paid goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, United continue to be linked with the transfer of Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani.
Cavani, 28, is tied into a contract with PSG until 2018, but United are lining up a bid for him, according to The Metro.
It is believed the striker is demanding a £5.75m-a-year salary, which Louis van Gaal is reportedly going to meet.
Sticking with The Metro and United could be 'just days away' from signing Barcelona's Dani Alves after the defender 'reportedly agreed to a move to England'.
The paper is following up on an article in Catalan newspaper Sport which claims that the Brazilian will link up with Van Gaal after he offered him a contract that was 'far superior' to the one on the table from Barca.
The 32-year-old is available on a free transfer as his contract at the Nou Camp expires this summer.
Bernard Mensah has confirmed United are keen on signing him. The Ghanaian midfielder, 20, has been heavily linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, and states that there has been contact between the two clubs.
He told Ghanaian Allsports: "It is true that Manchester United want me. I have not spoken with anyone at Manchester United but I know that there are negotiations with my club."
United can complete the signing of Christian Benteke this summer - if they offer Aston Villa £32m, claims The Metro.
United are reportedly keen on doing business but Chelsea, Liverpool and Roma have also been linked with a deal for the Belgian striker.
Roma, in particular, are known to be keen. The Serie A side are continuing to restructure behind the scenes and, suggests The Daily Mail, Benteke is an option they wish to pursue.
They have also considered the likes of United striker Javier Hernandez who also has interest from Napoli and AC Milan.
Roma also like United full-back Rafael, as do Fiorentina.
