Manchester City cast their eye on ‘fantastic’ Spurs star Gareth Bale

MANCHESTER City manager Roberto Mancini does not expect Gareth Bale to leave Tottenham even thought he admits he is a "fantastic player".

Mancini has spoken to the City hierarchy about summer plans and Bale is thought to be on their list although he doubts whether the Spurs winger would leave White Hart Lane.

"Gareth Bale is a fantastic player. But I don't think he will leave a big team like Tottenham," he said.

Bale has dropped heavy hints over the past week that he will review his future at the end of the season and suggested he may leave if Spurs do not qualify for the Champions League.

However, it is thought Bale would be open to a move even if Spurs manage to qualify for Europe's biggest competition and the project at City may appeal to him.

City, meanwhile, are gearing up for their penultimate match of the Premier League season at Newcastle on Sunday lunchtime.

Mancini's side lead the table on goal difference with two games to go but the Italian is still downplaying City's chances of winning the title.

"We have done nothing yet," he Mancini. "We have got two games left and Sunday will be a tough one.

"Nothing has changed. We just have to do what we did on Monday (against Manchester United)."
