Maguire hits high notes for Preston
Championship round-up: Sean Maguire scored for the second successive game to lift Preston North End up to fifth in the Championship with a 3-0 win over Cardiff City, who went into the game top of the league.
The former Cork City striker has netted two of Preston's paltry tally of six goals after seven games, however, that wasn't of concern to the almost 11,000 supporters at Deepdale as Maguire finished off a mazy dribble with 20 minutes remaining.
On a good night for Preston's Irish contingent, Alan Browne rounded off the victory when he capitalised on a poor clearance to score from just inside the Cardiff half.
Maguire has yet to feature in a final Irish senior squad; however, one man who has 26 caps was also on the mark as Daryl Murphy netted a late winner for Nottingham Forest, whose 1-0 victory over Sunderland left the Black Cats fifth from bottom. It's now 270 days since their last win at home.
Ex-Preston striker Eoin Doyle hit a late winner in Oldham's 3-2 victory over Bristol Rovers in League One.
