Liverpool v Chelsea – Player ratings

Jose Mourinho masterminded another impressive away performance to leave Anfield with the three points. Here is how the players rated.


SIMON MIGNOLET: Could do little about either of Chelsea's goals. Saved a couple of powerful shots. 7/10.

GLEN JOHNSON: Got forward well. 7.

MARTIN SKRTEL: Had little to do as Sakho took the majority of the responsibility at the back. 6.

MAMADOU SAKHO: Struggled to deal with Demba Ba's physicality. Ploughed an early chance into the stands. 5.

JON FLANAGAN: Average performance. Handled Salah's shot from close range. 5.

RAHEEM STERLING: Caused Chelsea problems all day with his pace. 7.

JOE ALLEN: Blasted a low volley in the second half which was saved by Schwarzer. 6.

LUCAS LEIVA: Had little involvement and deserved to be withdrawn. 5.

STEVEN GERRARD: Slipped, allowing Ba to give Chelsea the win. 5.

PHILIPPE COUTINHO: Worked hard but did not test Schwarzer. 5.

LUIS SUAREZ: Flopped when Liverpool needed him the most. 5.


DANIEL STURRIDGE (on for Lucas, 57mins): Failed to spark the revival following his introduction. 5.

IAGO ASPAS (on for Flanagan, 80mins): Failed to turn the tide. 5.


MARK SCHWARZER: Saved a couple of fierce shots and also did his bit in the time-wasting department. 7.

CESAR AZPILICUETA: Grafted hard all afternoon to stop Liverpool's midfield. 7.

TOMAS KALAS: Performed well on his first Chelsea start, but should have scored from close range in the first half. 6.

BRANISLAV IVANOVIC: Kept Suarez quiet. 7.

ASHLEY COLE: Another top performance in a big match from the left-back. Played a big part in keeping Sterling quiet. 8.

JOHN OBI MIKEL: Kept the midfield quiet without producing anything sensational. 6.

NEMANJA MATIC: The better of the two men shielding the Chelsea back four. 7.

FRANK LAMPARD: Offered little going forward, but did his part at the back. 7.

ANDRE SCHURRLE: Unlucky not to score before being withdrawn through injury. 7.

MOHAMED SALAH: Booked for foul on Sterling in the first half. Pace caused Liverpool occasional problems. 7.

DEMBA BA: Another decisive and cool finish. 8.


WILLIAN (on for Salah, 59mins): Tucked vital second goal away at the death. 7

GARY CAHILL (on for Schurrle, 76mins): Shored up the Chelsea defence towards the death. 7.

FERNANDO TORRES (on for Ba, 82mins): Ran 50 yards before supplying Willian with the second. 7.
