Liverpool have been tenuously linked with a summer transfer move for in-form Irish striker Shane Long, writes Daniel McDonnell.
Weekend newspaper reports suggested that Kenny Dalglish is looking to the Tipperary man as a possible back-up option for big-money acquisitions Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.
Long scored his 14th Championship goal of the season on Saturday -- as Reading drew 3-3 with Crystal Palace.
He has stated that he wants to play in the top-flight next season to further his career ambitions. Reading are currently six points off the play-off positions.
The Merseysiders will know Long well after his goal knocked them out of the FA Cup last January -- a strike which lifted the player from a spell in the doldrums.
