Liverpool fans braced for another panto villain
AS Liverpool supporters stick pins in images of Luis Suarez, they are entitled to have conflicting emotions as the club reputedly pursues a £25m deal for Armenian international Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Suarez has become a kind of poster-boy for the amoral world of professional football with his shameless indifference to the support received within Anfield, despite all that repugnant on-field behaviour of the last two seasons.
If he does get his wish to join Real Madrid, it seems the bulk of the transfer fee Liverpool receive will go on recruiting the French-born, multi-lingual Mkhitaryan from Shakhtar Donetsk.
But Mkhitaryan's current whereabouts are said to be unknown, Shakhtar revealing that he has failed to report for pre-season training and stating that he will, accordingly, face a club fine whenever contact is restored.
Doesn't exactly sound like Liverpool will be replacing Lucifer with John the Baptist, does it?
