Lethal Suarez has 'God' on his side
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler admits even he cannot fail to be impressed by the exploits of Luis Suarez.
The Toxteth-born forward is still a Kop idol after two spells at the club in which he scored 183 goals in 369 appearances.
Suarez's strike-rate of 80 in 128 is even better but it is the way he has done it which has impressed Fowler, nicknamed 'God' by Liverpool fans, who has backed the Uruguayan to sweep up all the end-of-season individual player awards.
"Luis should win everything, he has been that good," said Fowler, speaking at Liverpool's very first live kit reveal in the city.
"I am like a fan. I watch him and some of the things he does I think, 'God, how has he done that?'.
"He is an absolute joy to watch and I know he has a little bit more in his locker than scoring goals, with the assists and his excellent movement.
"From a forward-thinking point of view you look at his all-round game and not just the things in the public eye.
"I think he has a little bit of everything. I love going to games where you get one of these players who gets you on the edge of your seat.
"It is very rare we see that in the Premier League but Suarez is up there. He excites the crowd and when he is on the ball it lifts the place."
Suarez has played a significant part in helping Liverpool to top the Premier League table with five matches to go and a crucial clash at home to Manchester City to come on Sunday.
However, the weight of goals scored by the side is partly due to manager Brendan Rodgers' tactics, while the steadying influence of Steven Gerrard in a deep-lying midfield role has provided a solid base for their attacking intent.
"I think it is credit to the manager and he has got a team playing the right way, regardless of what formation or what position players play," added Fowler.
"I don't care what formation or team is playing, the confidence Brendan has put into the side is nothing short of remarkable."
On Gerrard, Fowler added: "A lot of people were saying Steven was not the player he was and he was finished, and I think he was delighted with people saying that because it gives him the chance to shine a little bit more and prove to people that he is certainly one of the best players in the Premier League.
"I think he has been absolutely immense this year and I would love nothing more than for him to pick up that league trophy this year.
"If any player in world football deserves a trophy as big as the Premier League it is certainly Steven because he has been the catalyst for all good things Liverpool have done for 10-plus years now."
