Who are IBV and Thor?

SO who are the Icelandic visitors to Dublin this evening? Both sides may come from the same island nation, but they have very different backgrounds and European experiences, WRITES RUAIDHRI O'CONNOR.

St Pat's know plenty about IBV Vestmannaeyjar who they met at the same stage of last year's Europa League. The club are based on the small island of Heimaey which is 10km off the mainland and part of the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago and while last year's away leg was held in Reykjavik, this year the Saints will get the full Vestmannaeyjar experience as they have increased ground capacity.

IBV currently sit fourth in the Icelandic top flight, having finished third last season, while they have not progressed past the first round in Europe since 1999/2000.

A ferry and 500km drive north-east brings you to Akureyri where Bohs' opponents, Thor, play. Debutants in European football, the second division side created a shock by reaching the country's cup final last season, losing 2-0 to double winners KR Reykjavik.
