St Patrick’s Athletic delivered a dominant display to defeat Derry City in their Premier Division clash at Richmond Park last night.

Despite the absence of key personnel through injury and suspension, the hosts started brightly with both Aaron Greene and James Chambers going close before the deadlock was broken in wonderful fashion in the 35th minute.

Greg Bolger received the ball 45 metres from goal and the midfielder’s superb strike from just inside the Derry half caught Gerard Doherty unaware as it flew over the goalkeeper’s head.

Here is the stunning goal:

To add injury to insult, Doherty required eight minutes of treatment before being replaced by Shaun Patton in the Derry goal.

The hosts continued to press after the break with Bolger and Greene both going close before sub Morgan Langley sealed the points with a header in the 82nd minute.
