Timlin on the double as St Pat's rout Finn Harps
St Patrick's Athletic 4 0 Finn Harps
A brace of goals against his home county club from Mark Timlin helped St Pat’s cruise to victory at Richmond Park.
Victory over Finn Harps lifts Pat’s move to within a point of Derry City and Shamrock Rovers, though Liam Buckley’s fifth-placed side have played a game more.
An encouraging start brought early chances for Billy Dennehy and Sam Verdon before they took the lead on nine minutes.
Conan Byrne was set free on the right by Dennehy to cross for Buncrana native Timlin to finish with a close-range volley.
The game died somewhat until three minutes before half-time when Pat’s doubled the lead as Byrne surged between two defenders to unleash a drive that Ciaran Gallagher got a touch to but couldn’t keep out.
Dennehy added the third goal on 69 minutes, running through from Timlin’s pass to side-foot confidently past Gallagher.
Timlin completed the scoring three minutes from time, finishing off neat approach play for his fifth goal of the league season.
