The finals of major tournaments have not always been a friend to the great Irish midfielders.

Two of the best ever, John Giles and Liam Brady, never played in a major finals. Roy Keane was around for eight campaigns but only played in one finals, in 1994. Wes Hoolahan was 34 by the time he finally graced that stage, so many wasted moments for him.
